Working through Anxiety (Group Counselling)
On April 9, 2024 I decided to write about an important post about when I was doing an anxiety counselling group with Mercy Ministries Canada and it helped me to know that I wasn’t alone in feeling anxiety that can often show up either on a regular basis, or suddenly, which isn’t ideal, especially if you are in a place where you can’t get away from it.
So the counsellor running the group reminded us about breathing and that often deep breathing can help calm your body down, as there may not be an actual physical danger, but because you mind thinks it is, it can cause your body to “freak out” when it’s often mainly in your mind.
So
it’s important to take a deep breath in if you can. Here are some ideas for what to say if you
are praying, Breathing in "Be
still" and Breathe Out "And know that you are God"
Or
Breathe in "I surrender" and out Breathe Out:
All my fears"
Or
Breathe
in "In this Moment"
Breathe Out: "I am Loved"
I’m bad for letting my anxiety get soooo high for myself, and it’s good to know that a simple technique as breathing in and focusing on our Elohim (God) can help us draw close to Him and His love and peace with Him. It’s so simple that you can do this anytime.
Another
simple thing that you can do when you are struggling and you need to ground
yourself are using your 5 senses.
5things
you can see
4
things you can feel
3
things you can hear
2
things you can smell
1
thing you can taste
It’s always helpful if you happened to be in a panic, what things around you that can bring you to a place where you can see a chair, or feel your soft sweater, etc. The thing that’s important is trying to bring you closer to where you can bring yourself more to the present. The number exactly of each one doesn’t matter, as long as you are trying to bring yourself to the present. While you are doing that you can continue to breath in that peace again with our Elohim.
Then another random one that someone else suggested in the group was using the ABC’s to help with anxiety and calm yourself down. You could do something as simple as singing the ABC’s or using the letters ABC’s to district yourself by think of countries, cities, colours, animals etc. that would start with those letters.
I know I have a huge amount of anxiety on a regular basis, and I see that others out there likely have as much or more, so I just wanted to share things that seem to help me, and others, and know that at the same time that Elohim is there and showing up even if you don’t realize it. So don’t give up on Him, and remember to breathe and as many of my friends and family have said you got this!! <3

Philippians
4:6-7 Do not
be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Here’s
a song about it seems like everything is perfect on the outside, but on the
inside we see that we need Our Lord to lead us with strong hands, and to not
leave us, and to show us that He’s willing to fight, that His love is still for
us, and we ask Him to give us the strength to be everything thing that He’s
called us to be, and we ask for Him to show us the way in this life.
