Persevering
On August 31, 2017 not long after we moved into our new place we noticed a spider outside one of our windows. At first I was a little nervous about it, as it wasn’t a tiny spider, but as the days went by I started to become fonder of it. I would watch it as it spun its web round and round. The spider would keep doing that until it was finished.
It was amazing to see the masterpiece the spider would make with its web. Then one day lots of rain and wind came and the spider’s web became damaged. I was a little sad to see that as the spider had done all that hard work on its web. The spider didn’t seem to think anything of it, as it went back to fixing its web. At one point the web came apart when we opened our window, but the spider kept persevering on as it mended its web.
After watching the spider, it made me think of how similar our human spirit can be. As babies, we learn how to walk by first crawling. After we master that, we attempt to stand up, and after that we try to walk. For a little one, that’s not an easy task. It takes hundreds of attempts to get the hang of it, but eventually majority of us do. Just like the spider – it doesn’t give up every time the web broke – it keeps on rebuilding it.
When we are going through difficult times it can be so easy to give up, but I find it is so worth it in the end to keep going. I’ve had tough times in my life, and so have many other people I know. Yet I found during those times that what really helped was relying on God.
I think often trials come into our lives to make us stronger. If you want to run a marathon, you can’t expect to complete the race if you never ran before. Even an experienced runner must regularly exercise by running long distances before they would be ready to run that race. During those times, there may be setbacks where a knee is injured, or dehydration occurs, or the running shoes get wrecked, to name a few.
Often, a runner usually keeps going after those setbacks. It’s amazing how there are so many different things that can inspire us to keep going. For myself when I felt at my lowest, knowing God was still looking out for me inspired me to keep going. I felt stronger through Him as He carried me through those dark times, realizing I wasn’t alone.
Remember that you are never alone during your trials in life; God’s waiting patiently to help you through it if you let Him help you.

Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all who labor and
are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you,
and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you
will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is
light.
Here’s a song about seeing the disappointment from
others, and whispers of who you think you are, and you feel alone, as you think
grace could never meet you that far.
That there is a war between guilt and grace and they are fighting for a
sacred place, but we are living proof that grace wins every time. And now we are rising up in victory and
singing hallelujah as grace wins every time.
A broke side can start to heal, when grace returns what guilt stole.
And you may
feel shame and blame, but in all that Our Lord calls our name and says it’s not
over, as grace wins for everyone in each of our circumstances.
