Victoria Day
I was
thinking today being May 23, 2017 that I would admit I’m not working currently,
so in some ways everyday is a holiday, but I appreciate statutory holidays a
lot more than I used to. You might
wonder why that is – well, it’s because my husband gets those days off. My hubby does get weekends off, but often we
are so busy during those times that we don’t get a lot of down time
together. This Victoria Day it was just
the two of us.
We slept in that
day a little bit later, if you can call 7:30am sleeping in. We decided to go for a run that morning. I was so excited for the run, as I hadn’t run
with my hubby since last year. I know my
husband had mixed feelings about going for a run, as he hadn’t run in quite a while. We decided to go for a 5KM run in the park we
usually run in.
I was
surprised how fast we were going at the beginning as my past eight runs had
been slower. I think running with
another person causes you to run quicker as they are a good distraction. By the middle of the run I could tell my
hubby was quite tired, which is to be expected when someone hasn’t run since
last year. He had two choices at this
point, to either keep pushing himself hard to keep up with me, or to conserve
some of his energy and go to a walking pace.
He decided
to go to a walking pace, as I continued running. I was so proud of him in that moment. One might wonder why, when he had gone slower. It’s not easy to slow down both literally in
a run, or symbolically in life. We can
often push ourselves until we end up collapsing and then we aren’t helpful to
anyone. I would know, as I used to do
that to myself. At one point when my
husband had caught his breath from walking, he started to run again.
He didn’t
end up catching up to me, but the great thing is, he ended up finishing the 5KM
run we started together. I cheered him
on during the last minute of the run, which felt so surreal, as majority of our
runs together I was in his place, out of breath and just making it to the end
of the run. He helped remind me that
often in life it’s better to take a little break in the hard times, than to
quit.
Later in the
afternoon, my husband decided to purge a bunch of things that he didn’t
need. It felt really great for the both
of us. Not only did getting rid of some
stuff help clean up the clutter in the apartment, but it also made the
apartment feel fresher, and help us breathe better. The rest of the evening we stayed close
together as we enjoyed each others company.
By nightfall we were starting to get tired when the fireworks started to
go off.
Our
apartment has an amazing view of the fireworks around us as we could see them
going off all over the city. I kept
trying to take photos, but most of them were turning out blurry. Then my sweet hubby decided to go get his
camera and try to get some for me.
Eventually we realized we weren’t going to get amazing photos, so we put
the cameras away and enjoyed the fireworks together.
I love that
I get to enjoy the holidays with the one I love. I’m so grateful that God brought my hubby
into my life, as both God and my hubby inspire me to do better daily.

Exodus
23:12 Six days
you shall do your work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; that your ox and
your donkey may have rest, and the son of your servant woman, and the alien,
may be refreshed.
Here’s
a song about being ashamed of things in our life, and Our Lord breaks our
chains, and He gave His life for us, and that makes us free and you ask how can
that be. You continue to hide, and doubt
that He still loves us, and there is only grace in His eyes. And He pleads our cause, and right the
wrongs, and breaks the chains. And
though we may fall He can make us new.
