Flowers

I was thinking today being April 28, 2017 about recently I went to a volunteer appreciation event last week.   It’s put on once a year for those that volunteer with a children’s agency.   One of the volunteers that I work with once a week couldn’t come.   I tried to get her to come, but she wasn’t overly interested in going as she had gone the past five years.   Also, she had a prior engagement that evening. I was feeling nervous about going as I didn’t know any of the other volunteers that were there.   I got to the event and it was much more laid back than last year’s one.   There was finger food by the side wall and they had waiters coming around occasionally with hors d'oeuvres.   I felt out of place until I saw a bunch of the volunteer co-ordinators standing by a tall table.   When they saw me, they said “Hi Patricia!” as they were excited to see me. Even though I see them once a week, they still liked seeing me outside of voluntee...

Music

Image
On April 21, 2017 I was thinking that it’s amazing how music can have so many different effects on people.   A song can bring you up and get you dancing.   Another song can bring you down when it sounds so sad.   And yet other songs can inspire you to want to do better.   I was trying to think about what I wanted to write for my next post when three songs I had been listening to recently touched me. I could tell that God was speaking to me through those songs as it made me want to change for the better.   I find lately that I have become stagnate when it comes to working on myself.   I’m not overly down and I’m not overly happy, I’m just okay.   I think most people often want to stay in a place of being content, which I was, but after I heard those songs it made me want to think differently. I’m not expecting that I’m going to be excited or happy 24/7 from now on, but I think every so often it’s important to re-evaluate our lives to see how ...

Not everyone thinks what you think

While I write this post being April 16, 2017 I was thinking about a couple of weeks ago I found a job posting for teaching children overseas English as a second language.   It was going to be done online with a webcam.   Even though I hadn’t had teaching experience before, I decided to apply for the job.   The important thing for the company was that you loved working with children and that you would be entertaining for them when you are teaching them English. After I applied, I got an email to set up an interview online with one of the recruiters.   Since I knew they preferred you to have a webcam I went out and bought one.   The morning of the interview I was so nervous as I had never done an online interview before.   I logged into their site and clicked on the lady that was going to interview me. I could see her, but she couldn’t see me.   I kept saying “hello”, but she couldn’t hear me.   I told the lady in the chat box that I was ...

Learning from my mistakes with a cake

Image
On April 9, 2017 I decided to bake a cake for my mom’s birthday, because as she says “I’m not going to make my own cake, when it’s my birthday.”   I ended up making a vanilla cake with chocolate and Reese peanut butter chips in the cake.   I hadn’t made this particular type of cake in a while, as such I ended up making a few mistakes. Normally that would frustrate me, but thankfully they were mistakes that could be easily fixed.   When I was starting to put the ingredients together, I forgot to put the sugar in.   After adding shortening, butter, milk, and hot water, I noticed that it didn’t look right.   It looked quite watery.   That’s when I realized that I hadn’t add the sugar.   That would have been bad, as there wouldn’t have been much flavour to the cake. After I added the sugar, I relaxed more as I didn’t think that I would make anymore mistakes since I was remembering how to make the cake again.   When it came time to add the c...

Asking God for something

Image
On April 3, 2017 I was thinking that when we are coming to God to ask Him for something, that we should have His will in mind.   God isn’t a genie or Santa, that grants any wishes that you ask for.   If you are asking and praying for something out of greed, it’s not likely that you will get it.   Even if you do receive the item or money you ask for, it doesn’t mean that it will make things better. I do know that some people may mean well when they are asking God for something, whether it’s for financial stability, a loved one to get better, a new house, good grades for their kids, and so on.   It’s important in those moments to seek God and find out what He really wants for you.   I am certain that God knows what is going on in your life, as well as everyone else’s, so He knows in your heart what is important to you. Asking for a loved one to get better is not a bad prayer, but it’s important to ask for them to get better in God’s timing.   I rem...
