Learning from a job interview
I was
thinking to myself on February 6, 2017 that the last time I had a job interview
was a year ago, and the owner of the company didn’t ask me too many
questions. I think the owner needed
someone quickly who was nice and could sell their products. I found that I wasn’t too overwhelmed with
that interview.
When I found
out recently that I would be having a job interview I wasn’t too nervous. The company had been in business for many
decades and was well-established in the city.
This helped me to relax a bit as then if I got the job I could expect
the business to have policies and procedures for how to do the job.
I had the
job interview in the afternoon about a week ago, and I decided to take transit
to get there. When I got there, I saw an
older lady trying to open the door, so I opened the door for her so she could
get into the shop. There were many
customers that were waiting in line to order food. When I tried to talk to one of the counter
people, the lady thought I was a customer and asked me to go to the back of the
line. I then told her I had a job
interview which caused her to relax a bit and smile and then she told me to sit
at a table while she got the manager.
There was
only one tall table available so I took it as I waited for the manager to come
around. The manager was training another
lady at the time and I thought to myself that
could be me soon. The manager came
over and started the interview. We shook
hands first and said our names. She
quickly went into the question part of the interview which made me nervous.
I thought
that I would be fine as my last interview was easy. This one was more difficult. I ended up being flustered, and I stumbled
over my words at times. I mentioned that
my weakness was being nervous and anxious in new situations, and I was very
much showing that in the interview. I
did mention my strengths of caring for the customers I would be helping, as
well as having a lot of previous customer service experience.
I felt the
interview went alright, but there was something in me after I left that made me
feel off about getting the job. I
started to feel really discouraged as I got back on transit to go home. By the time I got back to my place, my hubby
could see I was pretty upset. He could
tell I was getting down on myself and that I needed a good cry and hug.
As I was
doing that I heard from God as well as from Nathan that if I got the job I was
meant to get it and that I would be able to do the job. I also felt God tell me that if I didn’t get
the job, then there would be a better one out there for me. I was texting one of my friends about how the
interview went and she reminded me that even if I didn’t get the job that I
would have experience of how to answer questions for my next job interview.
I could see
that God was looking out for me even in the little things – from a text from my
friend, to an encouraging thought from Him and my hubby. I hope you know that in God’s timing, He will
work things out. There are times when
you may think you’re missing out on an opportunity, when in reality there may
be a better one coming your way.

Lamentations 3:25
The Lord is
good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.
Here’s
a song about times of desperation and all we know is doubt and fear and there
is only one foundation in Our Lord, and to believe. And when everything is so dark we ask Him to
know that there is only one salvation with Him.
We believe in Our Lord, and He will give us a new life.
