Never give up

On February 27, 2017 I was thinking I’ve seen different videos of athletes pushing through to the end of the race when they barely have anything left in them.   I’ve also seen athletes have a really hard competition, and in the next one they come back even better than they were before.   I find those people to be inspirational. This reminded me of one of my favourite Canadian male skaters growing up, Kurt Browning.   Every time I saw him skate on TV I was mesmerized by the jumps and the incredible footwork he did.   In 1988, Kurt Browning was amazingly the first skater in competition to do a quadruple jump, which will be a title he will always hold.   He always put personality into his skating competitions, which made it fun to watch. During the 1994 Winter Olympics Kurt Browning was expected to win as he had come in first place at Worlds four times in his skating career.   I waited in anticipation as I watched him skate his short program.  ...

Baking

Image
After lunch last Saturday on February 18, 2017, I decided to make chocolate chip cookies.   I was trying to decide between baking a single or double batch when I realized I had not made them in a long time.   So I decided double batch it was!   I put on my apron and started pulling out all the ingredients I needed for the recipe.   I noticed as I started to put all the ingredients together that I started to feel very relaxed and calm. It was a great feeling, and as I put the cookie dough together I noticed that I didn’t feel anxious at all.  I felt happy and content as I formed each cookie on the cookie pan.  I think because I hadn’t baked in a while that I had forgotten how amazingly fun it could be.  My hubby at one point started playing some songs on his computer, starting with an Elton John song.  That got me in the mood to sing and dance. I couldn’t stop smiling and thanking God for this incredible moment I was having.  At fir...

Gideon’s fleece

On February 13, 2017 I recently decided to read through the Old Testament of the Bible as the last time I can remember reading through the whole Bible was when I was a teenager.   I should admit that for the most part, I had found the Bible to be not very interesting.   I liked reading fictional or true stories that catch my imagination or excite me.   For the past couple of years I have been reading a portion of the Torah (which is the first five books of the Bible) with my hubby every Saturday.   The Torah portions allow us to read the Torah once every year when following the weekly schedule. When I first started doing this with my husband after we got married, I was mildly interested in it.  As these couple of years have gone by, I’ve started to anticipate reading the Torah on Saturdays.  I think part of it was that it took me a few years to really understand what the Bible was saying.  Often when we are not able to understand something, it can be...

Learning from a job interview

Image
I was thinking to myself on February 6, 2017 that the last time I had a job interview was a year ago, and the owner of the company didn’t ask me too many questions.   I think the owner needed someone quickly who was nice and could sell their products.   I found that I wasn’t too overwhelmed with that interview. When I found out recently that I would be having a job interview I wasn’t too nervous.   The company had been in business for many decades and was well-established in the city.   This helped me to relax a bit as then if I got the job I could expect the business to have policies and procedures for how to do the job. I had the job interview in the afternoon about a week ago, and I decided to take transit to get there.   When I got there, I saw an older lady trying to open the door, so I opened the door for her so she could get into the shop.   There were many customers that were waiting in line to order food.   When I tried to talk to o...
