Being in the moment

On January 30, 2017 I was thinking that I find that for myself, and I imagine other people, that we don’t tend to be in the moment all the time.  Often our minds wander because of stress, excitement, desire, exhaustion, and other reasons.  Recently I felt God put an impression on me to let me be in the moment.  I know for some people that may sound like a simple idea, but when you are frazzled on a regular basis it can be hard to be in the moment.

When I look back on my life I noticed that I’m not the type to – as the saying goes – ‘stop and smell the roses.’  Most people this day in age often are always on the go or constantly busy.  If that isn’t the case then there are other people that are bombarded by anxious thoughts.

I decided to try an experiment and take God’s advice for me and be in the moment.  I sat down and tried to relax, and at first, all that anxious energy I felt in my stomach was still stirring up in me.  I breathed in and out a few times and just let the tension in me go.  I could feel a burden lifted from me as I felt God’s peace come upon me.

I started to notice my apartment and just what a great place it is.  I admit there wasn’t much creative design in it, as all the apartments in our building look similar, but it was the little details, like pictures of my hubby and I, a nice plant, an elegant lamp, and a snowflake ornament to name a few that made our home our own.

After appreciating those little things in my apartment, I decided to go for a walk with my hubby.  When we got to our lobby we have an option of going one of two directions out of the building – front door or back door.  I normally have a destination in mind of where I want to go for a walk, but this time both of us weren’t sure.  When we saw a lady who was about to go out the front door with her baby in a stroller, we decided we would got out that way and help her with the double set of front doors.

It was fun going for a walk and not knowing where our end destination was going to be.  We lovingly linked our arms together and decided to walk in a different part of our neighbourhood.  Both my hubby and I like trains and during our walk we saw two of them and we couldn’t help but smile as they went by.  At one point, we started walking down a street we hadn’t been down before and it took us down a winding road by a famous chocolate factory.  That was a nice surprise.

Normally I’m a type of person that gets nervous about not knowing where I was going, but I decided during this walk to enjoy that time with my husband and the amazing different streets my city has.  I originally thought we would have a short walk, but we ended up walking downtown to where there are quaint little stores up and down the side streets.  I felt like we were on our honeymoon again as we had walked around that area of the city during that time.

Since we had walked further then we had planned we decided to take transit home.  I realized God’s advice helped me to enjoy my time more by being in the moment.  When you are present with the people in your life and take time to enjoy the things around you then it often helps you to de-stress your life.

Matthew 6:34   Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.  Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Here’s a song a good song about Our Lord hearing our cry, and deepest pain, and He listens patiently as long as it takes.  He whispers truth over the lies and reminds us that everything’s gonna be alright and while doing that He holds us in His arms until our storm is gone.

He is our strength when we are weak and He’s the only one that leads our soul to perfect peace.  And His love can be our song, until all our fears are gone and He’s working all things out for our good.
