Our 2nd Wedding Anniversary

On October 18, 2016 I was thinking that I find when it comes to celebrations with my husband I get super excited – both the night before and, of course, the day of.  I remember on his birthday I was just anticipating what he would think of the gift I got him as well as the card I bought him.  It was the same for our second wedding anniversary.

I often try to stay up until midnight to start off those days by sending off Facebook messages, texts, emails, and sometimes even phone calls if I’m not near by.  Suddenly my hubby’s phone is inundated with lots of messages from me.  It’s my way of saying ‘I love you.’

The morning of our second anniversary we gave each other cards and, no surprise, my husband found one that made me cry very happy tears.  It really expressed to me how much he appreciates and loves me.  When I gave him my card to him, I also gave him a couple little gifts.  I was looking online to see what the traditional gift is for your second anniversary and it was cotton.  I ended up buying him a pair of socks that were 25% cotton, and I also bought two lollipops that were cotton candy flavoured so we could share them together.  I thought to myself ‘well, it’s close enough to cotton.’

I think often it’s the little things that can add to your relationship to make it better, as well as it shows that you know your partner.  We decided to go to Denny’s for brunch as that’s where we went to eat on our honeymoon staycation.  We hadn’t gone there since then so I was very excited to go there as I love their breakfast meals.  I can for sure tell you that the pancakes were amazing!!! I love pumpkin-flavoured anything, and my pancakes were that type.  My hubby got salted-caramel banana-cream vanilla pancakes, and of course we sampled each other’s pancakes.  We also had hash-browns, eggs and turkey bacon.

To say the least we were super full, but I was so giddy and happy to be out on the town with my hubby that I hardly noticed.  I know I’ve come far from my eating disorder when I didn’t even care about how much food or calories I was eating.  I could be in the moment and enjoy what I ate as well as of course the view of the wonderful, handsome man that was sitting across from me, who made me blush.  To top that off, we walked by the hotel we stayed at during our honeymoon, and I finally got a picture of the entrance with us in it.  It brought back such great memories.

The rest of the afternoon and evening we relaxed and enjoyed each other’s company.  I decided to make a special dessert for us the night before, which was lemon poppy seed chocolate chip muffins.  We both liked lemon and chocolate, so I thought why not put them together.  They were so delicious, and with whip cream it was even better.

I found celebrating another anniversary with my husband was really special.  I know some people many not feel that as the years go on, but in my mind whether it’s our fourth or our tenth anniversary or any other one it will always be very special to me.  I know for certain that God brought us together and I feel that it’s important to honour that, as well on our anniversary.  I thank God for bringing us together as well as He helped me to see His love through my husband.   I find often when we open ourselves up to others, God’s light can shine through them.

Philippians 4:4-5    Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!  Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.

Here’s a song about feeling like a failure in life, and being frustrated that you have to keep fighting this difficult fight in life, but you won’t run away, as the Lord is the one you are running to, and we know that our life is in His hands.
