Appreciating the blessing in our lives

On June 24, 2016 I was thinking I find that throughout my life there have been times when I feel like I am getting more blessings in my life than other times.  I also think that some of those times when I believed there to be less blessings, I may have ignored the subtler blessings in my life.

The more obvious blessings that most people would notice are getting presents on your birthday, having a great family, finding an amazing spouse, having an awesome pet, having an incredible job, etc.  These are all wonderful things, but sometimes we forget the little things like bumping into a friend you haven’t seen in a long time, paying off a credit card on time, finding your favourite shirt cleaned by your loved one when you needed it, to name a few.

I have more recently started to notice that I have had a lot more positive things happen to me than I realized.  Most of my life I have focused on the negative situations that have come up for me.  In those negative times I wasn’t recognizing that there were positive things going on.  One example of that would be when I met a few of my close friends while I was in the hospital when I was a teenager.  If I had not been in the hospital at all when I was a teen, I wouldn’t have had some of the friendships I have today.

I think sometimes God can also withhold blessings from us if we don’t appreciate the ones we already have.  If you continue to give into a child that always asks for more after they got something they wanted, there will come a point when nothing will satisfy them.  In giving a child what they need instead of what they want all the time you teach them to see that the important things in life can’t always be attained instantly, as well as learning how to rely on others for help.

I have forgotten at times my one word for this year, “Rejoice!”  I focused on feeling down with not having direction for my life’s purpose and feeling stressed and depressed at times.  Recently I had a little reminder in my mind from God of His blessings in my life.   It helped me to see things differently again.  I rejoiced that I live with an incredible husband and that I get to see him everyday.  I rejoiced that I get to run in a beautiful park close to where I live.  I rejoiced that I have an amazing view from our apartment and that I regularly get to see beautiful sunsets.

When I started to appreciate and thank God more for the blessings He’s given to me I started to see even more blessings in the little things.  If I never thanked Him for anything in my life it would make sense as to why He might feel less inclined to bless me.

I hope that you can see blessings in the little things and the big things in your life, as I found when I did it really made my life better.

1 Thessalonians 5:18    Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Here’s a song about that our Lord hears us when we call, that even in the darkness His light shines through, so whom should I fear.  To remember that He crushed the enemy, and He is our sword and shield for those troubled times.  The God of angels armies are by our sides and our Lord will always reign forever with us.  Our strength is in His name and hands, for He alone will deliver us and He is our Victory, so whom shall we fear.
