Quirkiness
On April 24, 2016 I was thinking that everyone has a quirky side to them – it’s just a matter of whether or not they decide to show it to others. Some people will show it to the people they trust, while others will express that side of them on a regular basis.
For me I’m the type that shows it to the people in my life that I trust. I’ve had it before where I had a friend that liked the same TV show as I did and we would squeal and get excited when we knew the next season was coming on. Even though we didn’t watch the show together, we would discuss a shocking episode and say things like “oh my goodness can you believe what happened?!?” We would talk about everything that went on in the episode for hours.
For some people squealing over a TV show may seem strange, but when you find a connection with someone else that loves the same thing as you do then it seems odd not to get excited about that.
I used to be like that about my cat Monty when she was alive. I would talk about her to everyone, almost as if she were a person. I was always “Monty this” and “Monty that” as I couldn’t help myself since I loved her so much. I found other cat or pet people usually understood why I was so excited about Monty as she was a like a child to me.
I think embracing that silly side of yourself is always a good thing as more often than not people try to act like other people as they don’t think people will accept them any other way. When you try to be like everyone else all you become is a clone. I understand when children are growing up, trying to be uniquely yourself can be hard, as kids can tease those that try to be different. In the end it’s better to step out as who you are than as who someone else is like, since often if you don’t, then you will lose yourself.
When I am around a lot of people, I don’t tend to show my silly, quirky, funny side of me as I tend to get nervous. I often stay quiet and reserved, but I think that is alright to do as it is what I am comfortable with. If you get me with my husband or close friends or family, I tease, joke and laugh with them. I think it’s great also for those that can be this way with everyone around them as long as it’s something they themselves are comfortable with.
I think God puts our quirkiness inside of each of us as He wants us to be able to have fun and not always be so tense and serious. I find I often see God in others by the way we can be silly with each other. I’ve had it where I’ve laughed so hard with a friend that my stomach hurts, my eyes are watering and I’ve even had snot shoot of my nose. I wasn’t embarrassed at all as I was being myself and having so much fun with my friend. I think God wants us to have those moments as He’s showing His love and happiness for us.

Psalm 30:11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness.
Here’s a song about saying who am I, that our
Lord would want to know us and care for my hurts. He still hears us when we are calling, and He
catches us when we are falling and with that we are His. And He will look on us with His love and is
the one that calms the storm in us.
