Cleaning

On April 3, 2016 I was thinking if you dig into the word ‘cleaning’ it can mean a lot of things.  I hadn’t really thought about that until I decided to clean our place this past week.  I had noticed for awhile that my sink needed to be cleaned and I kept giving excuses to myself as to why I couldn’t do it.  I thought I’m too busy, tired, out of my home etc., and basically I was procrastinating.

I legitimately do get really tired at times and don’t have the energy to clean all that frequently, but I don’t too often have it where I am drained all day long.  I finally decided when I didn’t have any extra work to do that I would clean our bathroom sink.

I was surprised how easy it was.  Before I knew it the sink was spotless.  I find sometimes in life we have it where there is a task that we have to do, whether that is doing our homework, paying our bills, calling a friend, going shopping, etc. that we leave it for later to do.  Something inside ourselves prevents us from doing a certain task that needs to be done.  I think that some people feel it’s something that can be left for someone else to do, or it’s something that we dread to do, so we leave it to the last minute.

I find in some ways if you do something you would normally leave to the last minute earlier on it can make you feel better about the task.  It can take the stress out of it when you do it on time.  I find that often even something as tedious as cleaning can be fun.

I am a person who doesn’t mind cleaning, but I find I have to be in the mood for it.  Once I started cleaning the bathroom sink I noticed the mirror also needed to be wiped down.  Then my husband mentioned the toilet needed cleaning and I did that too.  The last thing I thought about doing was the floor.  By this point I was actually energized by the cleaning and that got me excited as I don’t have it that often where I have a huge amount of energy to do things.

I ended up washing all the floors in our home.  Thankfully our place isn’t too big, so I was done before I knew it.  I find you can make a boring task more interesting if you have music in the background, or make a game with yourself of how clean you can make the place, or how much work you can get done.

I felt that God was showing me from the cleaning that I was procrastinating in something I didn’t need to be.  If I had been cleaning our place regularly I would have less to do the next time.  Also I think He was giving me the energy to do the cleaning.  God can get you through anything as it is not on our strength alone.  If it had only been my strength I likely would have done half the cleaning I did that day.  I am thankful that He helped me with this task as well as teaching me something new in my life.  It’s great because God can teach us something new in anything if we let Him.

1 Corinthians 14:40   But all things should be done decently and in order.

Here’s a song about struggle deep dark times, that you won’t be overcome, and through the valley of the shadow that we won’t fear, as you are not alone and our Lord will go before you, and will never leave you.  That in the midst of deep sorrow that His light is breaking through.  That in the dark of night it won’t over take us as we are pressing into Him.  That the Lord is fighting each battle and He will help us with our fears.  And He is our Strength and Defender and our refuge in the Storm.  That in these trials He’s been faithful, and He brings healing to our souls.
